Well for the last 8 months I’ve been under an NDA that didn’t alllow me to tell you about my impending Book due out from Wordware publishing enetiled’ Essential ZBrush’. This is a truley massive tome that goes into great detail on Zbrush and digital sculpting itself. This will be a must have book for all ZBrushers (even if I do say so myself.)

Lots more details in these Waynecast’s aimed at regular viewers, with a ‘proper’ announcement for the rest of the ZBrush community very soon.

Aftr getting the usual stuff out of the way I thuoght as I was ill as a dog, I’d make this Waynecast a littl different. It asks the question ‘If you could travel back in time to any point in your life, when would it be?’ I answer that in the first one, and then explain in the 2nd one How I managed to undo something in the past without the aid of time travel. ;)

Eddie, Zbrush series in 3DCreative mag

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

I’ve started the body blocking in for the ‘Eddie’ sculpture today, not a whole lot done apart for getting the pose right and some very basic upper body work.   Usually I pose at the end, but have found this increases the chances of pinching at joints, so thought I’d try sculpting ‘in pose’ for a change to see how it works out.

Tomorrow I have the day off as I have to accompany my other half to get her wisdom teeth out….thankfully I had mine done a decade back.  Not a nice thing to have to go though as I remember it.

Starting this issue of 3D Creative magazine is my 7 part series for people totally new to Zbrush. Entitled ‘The beginners guide to Zbrush’, it covers the creation of a basic (but not boring hopefully) digital sculpt of ‘Birdman’.  (You can see ‘Brdman on the front page of this site at the time of writing.)  Be sure to check it out if you get a chance.

New Images

Herr’s a few new images from me. The first ‘Alseep in the deep’ is the one referenced in the last ‘Waynecast’ and done as a demonstration for a client. The fish is done from start to end in Zbrush from a sphere in about an hour and some post effects added in Photoshop. The title incedentally is in reference to the music that Harry Houdini used to have played while escaping from the Chinese Water torture cell. (There is oftn a link to my old job in my 3D work for those quick enough to spot the links.)

The second image is one of my early morning 20 min sketches that I do each day. This one is of ‘Eddie’ the Iron Maiden mascot and obviously has a fair way to go. (As I’ve deided to take this one all the way as I’ve been wanting to do an ‘eddie’ for years) . Its just the early stages but gives you an idea that this will be a ‘mild’ redesign of the character, and probbly invoke much weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth from old maiden fans lol.

Enjoy…

Last night I thougth I’d have a bash at a concept that Glen Southern upped as a challenge to users over at SubD. Normally being the admin I dont get a chance to join in this as often as I’d like, but as I was waiting for ‘Ashs to Ashes’ to come on the TV last night I thought I’d have a go.

If you would like to se the inital concept, you can do so here. I did tweak adn add a few things to it to make it in my style. As a rule its not the type of thing I’d try and sculpt so it made a refreshing change.
Enjoy.

I’m addressing something a tad more serious than usual in these ones. Not exactly what you’d call ‘light entertainment’ of the usual ‘Waynecast’ fare. These aren’t exactly subjects I feel great about dragging up, but alas recent events give me little choice in the matter.

The Beast - turntable

Here’s a turntable for those interested in a full 360 of this piece. I apologise for the slight loss of color in the encoding but for some reason ZBrush mov’s are losing color on upload no matter what I seem to do. It also contains an untextured version for those that want to see the ‘raw sculpt’.

The Beast! (Finished)

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Well I managed to finish the sculpt with just 2 mins left of my self imposed 3 hour deadline. If you want to take a look at it, head over to ZBrushCentral here. The final time was 2 hours 58 mins, with 47 mins spent on the head, and the rest spent on a combination of the body, texturing and post work.

As a personal challenge its certainly done its job and it was nice to se that I can beat a 3 hour limit when I put my mind to it. Yeah there are a few things I would have liked to go back and sort out with it, but to do so would be to defeat the whole idea of the 3 hour limit in the 1st place. So feel free to head over to ZBC and show your support (or lack of it). Either way I’m quite proud of myself.
