The Leech

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Sculpting is done for the leech (as I’ve called him) and it took 1 hour 45 mins from start to finish.  I am aiming for a Doom type of design for this one and also somthing that would stand up well as a monster / vilian in the new series of Doctor Who. (Sort of in a simlar way to the current sontarians redesign.)

I’ll probably do another couple for the last 3D creative article and call it a day on the busts for a while.

Busts or Bust!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

I realized the other day that the series on Zbrush for beginners that’s being serilaized in 3D Creative magazine are for a model done last year and I feel I’ve came on a fair bit since then.  So I decided as I’m sort of on a creative roll the last few days to do a series of busts using exactly the same workflow as in the articles.  The plan is to add them at the very end of the series to show what else is possible to hopefuly inspire some new users to have a go at Zbrush.

1st up was a bust of a random alieneque type dudeI did  the night before last at 4am in about two and a half hours that you can see above.   I took it into max for the final render for a change as I’m a little sick of seeing the same selection of Zbrush matcaps I use lol.  Plus its about time I presented my sculpts a little better in the future than I have beenthe last 12 months or so.

The next one is still unfinished at the time or writing and doesn’t have a name as yet… its sort of a doom3 inspired (loosly) bust that I’ve stil got  afair bit of work left to do on him.  But so far I like the direction its going in.  Obviously I dont want to go too mad with the busts for the final article as I do need to leave space in the magazine for the other stuff lol.

In this one I talk about how each artist is their own worst enemy and why all artists starting out are like a horse in a field.  There’s also the selection of other stuff in part 2 as usual.

Well I had a little time last night to pick up the Davros model again.  It was bascially just tidying up this time and nothing spectacular. Its getting close to what I want as a redesign now, although thrs till a few things to sort out that are outstanding.

Female Nude

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

I thought as I had some time the last night or two after working my socks off for the last few weeks. Instead of resting as I should have done, I decided that I’d do a sculpt for ‘me’. Something that is hopefully a little bit out of th blue compared to my normal stuff.

This female nude is actually intended to be the main part of a scene that I have in mind. Its a very controversial subject matter to say the least and is bound to invoke a range of reactions should I not chicken out. (So as such I’m not saying what it is, also I dont want the idea stolen lol.)

I also wanted to show that I can actually sculpt other stuff than just monsters and ugly Mofo’s when I want to lol. Although monsters are a heluva lot more fun.

At the moment the hair is a stand in and obviously its not yet posed. The body is based on someone, although I banned on pain or death from saying who exactly. ;)

Enjoy

Part 2

What happened to part 19 you may be wondering? Well it had nothing to do with 3d in any way so it stayed on youtube where it belongs.  In this part I continue my discussions on frelancing in the world of 3D, and alot of other stuff thats ging on right now work wise and in my personal life.  No new art work that I can show you of late, although I’ve done about 15 model the last 2 weeks for clients, all are under NDA so I can’t share them unfortunately.

I started work on this tonight as a sort of ‘mental clearing house’  to counteract the type of work I’m doing right now.  (No I can’t tell you what it is unfortunately.)  I may continue with it if times allows as I’m only about 1 hour into it.   Below are the links to this weeks 3 part Waynecast on freelancing in 3D including things to watch out for, dealing with bad payers and how much to charge.  Oh and a nice litle Doctor who relate rumour I heard from an ex employee of ‘The Mill’ a few days ago.

Hopefully the information in these will be of some use to someone starting out. But rememebr they are only my views and not ‘the word of law’.
