Venus Rising (Work in Progress)

Friday, June 13th, 2008

This is the early stages of a work in progress I’m messing around with as time allows at the moment.  The body is based on a life model I used for another project that I’ll let out later in the year. The face needs some work as yet, mainly as the body is what I’ve been focusing on at the moment.  Polygon count: 2.5 million.

New look main site

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

OK I got bored after a long day and really wanted to do something different so what better than a new banner for dashDotSlash.  I feel a total redesign coming on as well soon.  I’m loking for a nice piece of gallery code (as I can’t be botherd to write one from scratch myself, plus I’m a bit too busy to be messing around with code.)

This sites (apart from the blog section) has looked the same for a while, and those who’ve been hanging round here since early on know I often get an ‘itch’ to totally redesign the site from the ground up.  So this looks like the peliminary itch stage.  With a house move pending its a hell of a time to get a redesign itch!

I’ve also cut the ammount of image sdown in the main site gallery as there were some really old images I thought weren’t indicative of my current standard of work. Although I have kept a few old ones in one section for ’sentemental reasons’. :)  The turntable / animations page has had a few minor content updates and soon the tutorial and DVD sections will be redone again as I’m not happy with the current layout.

HULK SMASH!! (1 hour speed sculpt for my son)

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

I asked my son Kane (3 years old) what he’d like daddy to make for him (he likes me to make a quick monster or superhero every saturday night if he’s been good for when he wakes up the next day.) I expected him to say ‘batman…but suprsingly enough he wanted The Hulk..but not any old Hulk as he wasn’t keen on the realistic ones that people have been doing of late. He wanted a comic book version instead.

My intial reaction was to try and explain to him that the hulk has been done to death sculpt wise of late..but nope, he insited that he wanted one so here it is.  I spent an hour on it sculpting form a sphere, and didn’t really have any hulk comic refs handy (and it has been too long a day to go hunting throug comics) so I freestyled the design and hopefully it captures the ‘comic book feel’ close enough for kane who is my harshest critic lol.

Oops…..

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I did a quick 30 min doodle form a poly plane a few nghts ago at 4am.  Now I used to do shed loads of these a year or so back and I’ve started to get back into them again to relax.

My ‘plan’ was to tighen it up tongiht but alas I was about to do some wax sculpting today and have a serious allergy to the wax I bought! I’m typing this using 6 fingers as I can’t actually bend  the thumb and forefinger on each hand at the moment.

Its a bit of a strange allergy to develope and slightly annoying as I can’t actually finish this off tonight as planned.

So here it is in its unfinished state.  Hopefully my hands will eb back to normal soon.
